Choosing To Go Back to School

Considering Aviation School Or Becoming A Military Pilot? What To Consider

by Armando Elliott

If you want to become a pilot and you think you want to fly commercial flights, then you will need to get a formal education and go into an aviation program. If you aren't sure if you want to fly fighter jets or possibly just fly on your own, there are other options to suit you as well. Here are some of the things to take into consideration when you are trying to figure out what career path you want to take.

Get Into College With an Aviation Program

If you want to learn how to fly a commercial plane or a plane for logistics, you need to pick a college or university that has an aviation program. There are some pre-requisites that you will have to meet both academically and physically in order to get into the flight training program once you are enrolled with the school. You will want to talk with an academic counselor to discuss the grades you need to get in order to get into the aviation program.

Go Into the Military

Another way to learn how to fly is to go into the military and the Air Force. If you aren't interested in going into the Air Force Academy, you could still general enlist and become a pilot. You will have to get into the program and meet certain qualifications and ranks as you serve your time, and you will want to talk more with a recruiter about becoming a pilot.

Get Private Lessons for Small Aircrafts

If you only want to fly small aircrafts, you can get private lessons and learn to fly privately. You would only be able to fly small planes, and it can be costly if you don't have your own to rent every time you want to fly somewhere. You also have to keep up your certification and pass your flight test.

If you think flying commercial planes or private plans with passengers is something that you really want to do, then aviation school will be the best choice. You can get a bachelor degree and specialize in aviation, and you will have a promising career when you graduate. Look at different schools' admissions requirements to see if you could qualify to get in, and then determine if you are ready to commit when you look through the courses you would have to take and the flight training you would have to undergo.
